The TSI Assessment TSIA is part of the Texas Success Initiative program designed to help your college or university determine if you are ready for college-level course work in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. If you are an incoming college student in Texas, you are required to take the TSI Assessment - unless you are already exempt read below - to determine your readiness for college-level work. Which students must take the TSI Assessment? Not all incoming students need to take the TSI Assessment.

Due to the nature of the mathematics on this site it is best views in landscape mode. If your device is not in landscape mode many of the equations will run off the side of your device should be able to scroll to see them and some of the menu items will be cut off due to the narrow screen width.

Also, as we will see, we will need to get decimal answer to these and so as a general rule here we will round all answers to 4 decimal places. Example 1 We are going to fence in a rectangular field and we know that for some reason we want the field to have an enclosed area of 75 ft2.

We also know that we want the width of the field to be 3 feet longer than the length of the field. What are the dimensions of the field? Therefore, the length of the field is 7.

The width is 3 feet longer than this and so is Notice that the width is almost the second solution to the quadratic equation. The only difference is the minus sign. Do NOT expect this to always happen. In this case this is more of a function of the problem. For a more complicated set up this will NOT happen.

Now, from a physical standpoint we can see that we should expect to NOT get complex solutions to these problems. Upon solving the quadratic equation we should get either two real distinct solutions or a double root. Also, as the previous example has shown, when we get two real distinct solutions we will be able to eliminate one of them for physical reasons.

Example 2 Two cars start out at the same point. One car starts out driving north at 25 mph. Two hours later the second car starts driving east at 20 mph. How long after the first car starts traveling does it take for the two cars to be miles apart?

So we have the following distances traveled for each car. In the sketch we will assume that the two cars have traveled long enough so that they are miles apart. We have learned three different methods of solving quadratic. situation and on the equation we have to solve.

The first means that can be used to solve a quadratic equation is. factoring. Factoring only works in certain cases, but is by far the easiest.

and fastest to use. When factoring it is 3/5(3). Topics: Quadratic equation, Essay on Quadratic equations functions cm, and the area of the wooden frame is A cm2.

(a) Write an expression for the length l in terms of x. (1) (b) Write an expression for the area A in terms of x. (2) (c) If the area of the frame is 24 cm2, find the value of x.

Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC), a two-year community college located in Northwest Louisiana. In Algebra I and Algebra II, we sometimes need to solve word problems using quadratic equations.

When solving word problems, some common quadratic equation applications include projectial motion problems and Geometry area problems. The most important thing when solving these types of problems is to make sure that they are set up .

Which math topics will be tested? The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Mathematics and Statistics test contains questions that measure proficiency in the following four content areas. Richard Bland College of William & Mary is the only two-year residential college in Virginia. The residence halls were built in and offer apartment-style living with state-of-the-art amenities.
